Tornado and Storm Damage
A tornado and heavy, damaging storms can strike at any time and without warning. If your home or vehicle is damaged by a tornado, hail, or by another weather related incident, you should be prepared on how to handle the aftermath of reporting that damage to your insurance company.
- Make a detailed list of the damage and contact your insurance agent. If you are unable to call from home, make sure they know where you can be reached.
- Make temporary repairs to prevent additional damage from weather or looting.
- If your home incurs extensive damage, hire a reliable contractor and keep all receipts for your insurance agent. Be wary of unknown contractors that appear after a disaster.
- Cooperate with the authorities. In the aftermath of a major disaster, you may be asked to stay off emergency roads, relinquish your phone lines, etc.
